Recent Advocacy Efforts

AASHE joined ACE and other organizations in May 2025 in urging the federal government to reaffirm its longstanding partnership with higher education. The statement emphasizes the importance of institutional autonomy and continued investment in education and research.
AASHE signed a letter opposing the House FY25 Budget Reconciliation Bill, which threatens clean energy tax credits and EPA grant programs. The letter warns of rising energy costs and stalled climate progress if these programs are eliminated.
In February 2025, AASHE signed the Nonprofit Community Letter, urging the 119th Congress to recognize and support the vital role of charitable organizations. This collective advocacy effort highlights the impact of federal policies on nonprofits' ability to serve communities effectively.
The Climate Change Education Act aims to enhance climate literacy via grants to higher education institutions and education entities.
AASHE calls for increased accountability in global forest conservation efforts on the International Day of Forests.
As the COP28 climate summit approaches, AASHE has signed onto a collective call urging President Biden to recognize the U.S.’s historical responsibility for climate change and commit to contributing its fair share of the global effort to counter climate change.
